The Other Naughty Piglet

My kind of Naughtiness

BBQ pork belly, sesame, Korean spices

I have read many great things about Naughty Piglet, a popular casual restaurant and wine bar in Brixton, the cooking was French in principle but injected with influences from around the world. The place had became one of the "hippest" restaurant with its forward thinking but well executed cooking and a solid list of interesting wine. The reason that stopped me to visit is the location, but that had all changed with the launch of The Other Naughty Piglet: A new restaurant in Victoria from the same team, which sit above The Other Place musical theatre, the menu is short but loaded with plenty of exciting and unusual elements, all the dishes are designed mostly for sharing.

Bread
Ham croquette
Burrata, sage, anchovy

The burrata dish was as simple as you can get but what a fine dish it was, the crispy sage leaves worked like a treat with the creamy texture of the cheese while the anchovy acted as a robust seasoning, simply wonderful. The Devon crab was a playful dish which blended well seasoned white cabbage together with sweet white crab meat plus a bit of an Asian touch from the peanut. The brill looked simple but it was moist and cooked wonderfully, with the classic butter sauce, which added depth as well as a mouthwatering aroma. Last but not least was the beef rump, served pink and tender in texture, that roast bone marrow was rich and impactful, with the addition of the mild sweetness from the Madeira sauce, it completed this wonderful plate of cooking.

Devon crab, white cabbage, peanut
Brill, butter sauce, monks beard

I visited The Other Naughty Piglet at its soft launch period and I was already amazed with the quality of its cooking. There weren't any fancy element or state of the art presentation, but every single ingredients on the plates served a purpose from a taste point of view. Even more impressive was that almost all the elements in each dish were done masterfully, the only weak dish on the night for me was the ham croquette which was seriously over seasoned, but beside that, everything else was well executed and this restaurant could well be on its way to become one of the hottest and best restaurant in Victoria.
