Pitt Cue Co

Soho BBQ

US Whiskey selection!

Pitt Cue Co, the legendary BBQ joint in Soho is regarded as one of the best BBQ restaurant in London. It is known for its well sourced high quality meat from farms across the UK. It has a short but solid American whisky selection, with top premium brands such as The Buffalo Trace Antique Collection. As it is a tiny restaurant, combining with a no booking policy means that it is impossible to plan ahead or knowing when you can get a table. Sometime it is normal to wait over an hour in the evening, my advice is to give yourself at least 2 hours for visiting Pitt Cue Co and avoid it if you got to catch a train or have a theatre booking elsewhere.

So what about the food? The lamb chateaubriand lived up to my expectation, it was served pink and finely seasoned, it had a good mixture of mild earthiness and sweetness with a melt-in-your-mouth texture. The side dish of bone marrow mash was done very well, rich and creamy smooth but not overly thick. The Mangalitza chop was perhaps the best dish on the day, it had a lovely rich meaty aroma that was just so inviting, the meat was very moist and super tender, it was a faultless dish for me. The mutton leg however was average at best, far too salty and lacked the bold smokiness that I was hoping for.

All in all it was a pretty good lunch at Pitt Cue Co, but hardly the best BBQ restaurant in London. It is still some ways off if I was to compare it to Smokehouse and the waiting time was just ridiculous. While I understand it is a small restaurant, waiting for over 40 mins at lunch time on a weekday was just painful. You can have a 3 course set lunch menu from a few Michelin restaurants nearby at similar price with much more comfortable seating plus you can book in advance, so unless you are a die-hard BBQ fan, it should be an easy decision if you are judging from a value and convenient perspective on where to go.
