Lords of the Manor

Dine like a lord

Salmon, lemon and artichoke

Located in Upper Slaughter, Lords of the Manor is a luxury countryside hotel with a restaurant with the same name. It gained Michelin star status for 8 years in a row with some very positive reviews from the press. As a fine dining lover, Lords of the Manor was too good to give it a miss when I was travelling to Cotswold. The decor and surrounding of the venue was seriously impressive, it has a stunning garden with an elegant dining room to match, it is almost like a mansion. The restaurant offers a la carte and tasting menu for dinner at a rather premium cost, but it does have a much more affordable set menu for weekend lunches and that is what I went for.

Feta and kohlrabi
Ham hock and foie gras
Duck and beetroot, spiced orange

The meal kicked off with a duck dish that contained beetroot and pistachio, it was a really well balance plate of food with a mixture of sweetness and earthiness, every element on the dish sync up really well together. The main course of salmon was an absolute delight, it was cooked to the perfect level and finely seasoned. The shrimp butter added an extra layer of sea aroma and a rich flavour to the moist salmon, it was a really well executed dish. Last but not least was a chocolate marquise, not overly sweet and came with a wonderful mint ice cream that was as fresh as you can get.

Roasted beef
Rhubarb, fennel, ginger
Chocolate marquise and mint

My Sunday lunch experience was truly fantastic, the cooking didn't contain any fancy modern technique, but it delivers some beautiful flavours that worked in harmony on the palate, and I am pretty sure the cooking could be even better from the dinner or tasting menu. Special shout out to the service team. All of them very knowledgeable, well mannered and super slick, treating every single diner like lords. To sum it up, Lords of the Manor is a beautiful place with great food and services to match, if you want to admire fine dining in a luxury setting in the countryside, Lords of the Manor ticks all the boxes.
