We have had gourmet burgers, pizza, ramen and many other fast food items in 2015, it appears kebab is the next food item getting a premium makeover. Le Bab in Carnaby Street is a new launched restaurant specialising in modern gourmet kebab, it is by a pair of founders who has experience in fine dining. Just like other classic fast food dishes, providing it is in a hand of a capable chef, using top ingredients, with a touch of creativity, it can be just good as a fine dining dish. The food was on the house, as they had to cancel my original booking date due to issue with its kitchen.

The lokma, aka a small doughnut with spiced chicken liver parfait was what top nibble food is all about. The parfait was smooth and rich with not a trace of unpleasant bitterness, I can easily eat that all day long. The pig head kebab special was indeed very special, a massive kebab using half of a pig's head. The skin was as crispy as you can get from a pig, it had great seasoning and the meat was super moist and tender. The meat together with the molasses sauce and grilled bread, it was almost like eating Peking duck but it was replaced with pork meat. My only small issue with the dish was the fat ratio of the dish was really high so it is not an ideal dish if you fear highly fatty items.

Overall it was a pretty quality meal, it was still early days for the restaurant so I am sure they will iron out some of the issues I have encountered. I was especially excited with the pork head kebab as it is one of those dishes that wouldn't be able to find it elsewhere, you will need at least three people to share this mouthwatering, super filling dish. While the price is not cheap (you are looking at paying around £20 for a starter and a kebab plus service charge), the quality of the cooking is a big step above your everyday kebab joint. No one in London is doing anything similar right now and is a must try place for any serious kebab lovers.
